I made a version of the “we call them a pirates hat” from hello yarn, for a friends daughter. I liked the pic of the pattern but didn’t look at it right away. I noticed the hat wasn’t made with worsted weight yarn so I modified it, using the pirate hat chart for the skulls. I also knit it in the round, I hate seaming! This fits a small womans head. I took the basic skull and re-charted it on some knitting graph paper to simplify. I believe I got 7skull repeats on the hat.
with size 6 circs. CO 105 sts. with Main Color
place marker,
K1,P1 around for 2″
k1 round with MC
Start fairisle skull chart.(15 stitch repeat with the spacing) knit until skulls are complete.
knit in MC until length of completed piece including ribbing is 5″
start decreasing - k2 tog k8 repeat around
k1 round
k2 tog k7 repeat around
k1 around
keep decreasing in this fashion until you have 10-15 stitches left.
pull a threaded yarn needle thru remaining sts and pull closed.
weave in ends.
*note this pattern is a 15 stitch repeat to evenly space the skulls. To size up or down, CO accordingly
That’s it)
Hope you like my first attempt at adjusting a pattern! If anyone has any questions let me know and I’ll clarify.
so fun!

No pattern for the fair-isle? If it’s not posted, I guess I ‘ll have to work it our from scratch. You say 15 stitch repeat; how many rows?
